About Higher Ground Construction Co. ..…

Higher Ground Construction Co. is a small custom construction and remodel company with a broad range of experience. Most of our work is building Energy Star* homes and doing trim carpentry, but a more accurate way to know us is not by what we do but how we do it. We bring an artistic sense to our work and are especially motivated to create eye-pleasing and enjoyable living spaces. To that end, we offer significant design input during the course of a project, often developing the initial design.

Who we are…

Michael Oas, carpenter and company owner, grew up on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, WA. The son of a professional artist, he brings a keen eye and designer’s outlook to his work. Although determined to be an architect during his high school years, his interests were redirected towards social studies during a year-long exchange in Stockholm, Sweden. Back in the States, his college summer vacations were spent working with Bainbridge roofing contractors who taught careful attention to detail for keeping out the abundant Pacific Northwest rain.

In 1992, Michael graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, magna cum laude, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. That summer he married Michelle, and the two set their sights on working with Wycliffe Bible Translators. To begin paying off college debt prior to working with Wycliffe, Michael found a job working with another contractor. Soon afterward, he received his building contractor’s license and formed his own company. Fiftteen years and five children later, the school loans are gone and Michael is still doing construction. He enjoys the excitement of working together with clients to create unique and beautiful homes.

Kevin Reynolds is lead carpenter at Higher Ground Construction Co. Born and raised in southern California, Kevin trained and worked as a technical service engineer in the manufacturing industry for more than two decades. On a typical workday, you would have seen him toting his high-tech, precision measuring and adjusting devices on his way to fine tune the next machine for optimal performance.

While on a job in Owatonna, he met and fell in love with Jean, and the two married and settled in Mankato. In 1995, his and Michael’s paths crossed and the two began working together. Today, Kevin brings to Higher Ground Construction Co. the same aptitude for precision work he previously brought to the manufacturing industry.
